According to analyst firm Gartner, an estimated 37 billion new “things” will have joined the Internet by 2020; this proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices is revolutionizing the supply chain industry as we know it – especially when it comes to warranties. Ultimately, predictive analytics on data from these connected devices can and should be used to proactively support, maintain and repair products without interrupting customer use, allowing for a level of seamless customer support that drives customer loyalty, value and long-term revenue. In addition, these insights can transform product development and innovation.

Organizations’ ability to compete in an emerging digital economy will be contingent on creating value driven by the ability to capture and analyze the data streaming from smart devices and effectively turn big data into even the smallest amounts of actionable knowledge.
