ModusLink’s Suite of Sustainable Solutions is designed to lessen the impact supply chain processes have on the environment while also reducing cost. Sustainability is no longer a peripheral objective of technology manufacturers. With the recent emphasis on climate change and the affects of human activities on the environment, combined with the resulting regulations and requirements, sustainability has become an intrinsic component of operational strategies across all industries.

We take a cradle-to-cradle approach that includes services from packaging design to network optimization and simulation and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) footprinting to recycling and asset disposition. The Suite includes three key solutions, each with its own focus on sustainability.
- Sustainable Packaging — ModusLink measures and analyzes the amount of carbon emissions of various packaging types and provides customers with feedback as to whether or not their traditional packaging is eco-friendly. The Solution leverages the industry’s leading tools, including Wal-Mart Sustainable Packaging tool and the soon to be released SPC COMPASS. ModusLink also uses a 4D methodology to model current packaging design, along with multiple new variations for the client to consider that compare labor, material pallet density and carbon emissions.
- Optimized Configuration — ModusLink’s leading supply chain analysis and optimization solution teams our supply chain design expertise with best of breed techniques and tools in network optimization, discrete event simulation and inventory optimization to determine the most efficient and cost-effective supply chain model and inventory strategy possible This is ideal for identifying and executing more sustainable processes within the supply chain. Reviewing an organization’s end-to-end supply chain helps clients understand how each part of the supply chain affects GHG emissions. Not only can we optimize for GHG/carbon emissions but also better understand how it impacts all other costs in the supply chain.
- GHG Optimization — We can measure and analyze each trade-off, including carbon emissions for logistics and all GHG emissions for operational activities – as well as the capability to assign value to carbon credits –to provide clients with recommendations on a sustainability program that fits their specific needs and geography.
ModusLink’s Aftermarket Solutions complement the Sustainable Solutions Suite by offering services such as recycling and refurbishment of returned or excess inventory and value recovery programs to maximize the use of all product that is manufactured.
