ModusLink Hires Industry Veteran to Lead Execution of Global Supply Base Management Strategy
New SVP of Supply Base Management to Drive Efficiency and Opportunity Through Creative Sourcing and Supply Chain Strategies
Waltham, Mass. - February 9, 2006 -ModusLink Corporation, a subsidiary of CMGI, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMGI), today announced that it has hired supply chain industry veteran, Joseph Lombardo, to lead execution of the company’s global supply base management strategy. In his role as SVP of Supply Base Management (SBM), Lombardo will leverage his strong international operations experience to manage global supply base activities, standardize global sourcing and procurement practices and identify new ways to leverage the combined expertise of ModusLink’s local and regional supply specialists. By optimizing global sourcing and supply chain strategies, ModusLink helps clients gain greater visibility into their supply chain operations to improve decision-making, increase efficiency, minimize risk and reduce costs.
With more than 25 years of global supply chain management expertise, Lombardo will be instrumental in building strategic supplier relationships, improving supply logistics and maximizing the substantial combined spend leverage of ModusLink clients to ensure the delivery of the most efficient and cost-effective sourcing and procurement solutions. Lombardo recently served as Director, Global Accounts in Solectron’s Supply Chain organization and previously held positions at EFTC, HADCO and Digital Equipment Corp. Lombardo will manage regional sourcing specialists and will report directly to ModusLink’s Chief Financial Officer, Tom Oberdorf.
“Over the past year, ModusLink has been committed to driving efficiency improvements in every aspect of its business,” said Joe Lawler, President and Chief Executive Officer of CMGI. “This critical role is designed to drive cost reduction as well as improve the value we deliver to clients through efficient, strategic supply base management services. Joe Lombardo’s extensive knowledge of global market dynamics and customer sourcing requirements will create new opportunities for clients to compete more effectively in today’s volatile global marketplace.”
ModusLink has an internal organization—the Commodity Sourcing Solution Group (CSSG)—dedicated to leveraging supplier relationships and commodity sourcing opportunities in Asia. Lombardo will also oversee management of the CSSG and help clients leverage this resource for competitive advantage.
“While emerging markets add to the variability and complexity of the global sourcing process, they also generate significant opportunities for cost savings and competitive advantage,” said Joe Lombardo. “One of ModusLink’s strongest capabilities is its proven expertise and ability to help clients weigh the advantages of securing low-cost supplies in emerging markets against the possible challenges that could impact return on investment. The rush to low-cost sourcing destinations has become an exponential trend that is expected to continue and ModusLink is well-positioned to help clients leverage new market opportunities for competitive advantage.”
